Allergy friendly easter eggs

Buying chocolate, and Easter eggs in particular for someone with allergies can be daunting. Are there hidden ingredients that you haven’t spotted? How can you be completely sure that the one you buy is the right one? Well things are getting better every year for those with dairy, nut and wheat allergies as the number of great tasty and allergen free options grows every year. Here is a run down of some that I have spotted in the shops.

Choices Dairy Free Easter egg with six chocolate discs 125g (Dairy, wheat, gluten and egg free)
Ingredients: Sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, rice powder, (rice syrup, rice starch, rice flour), inulin, coconut oil, natural flavourings, emulsifier (soya lecithin).
Caution: This one has no mention of nuts, whether it is free from or not.

Kinnerton dairy free egg, available in The Simpsons and Winnie the Pooh (Dairy and nut free)
Ingredients: Hollow Dark Chocolate Egg: Cocoa Mass, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin; Natural Vanilla Flavouring. Fruit Flavoured Jellies: Glucose Syrup, Sugar, Gelling Agent: Modified Maize Starch, Pectin; Concentrated Fruit Juice (11%) ( Apple, Grape, Pear, Peach, Pineapple), Acidulant: Citric Acid; Acidity Regulator: Sodium Citrate; Vegetable and Fruit Extracts, Natural Flavourings, Glazing Agents: Carnauba Wax, Vegetable Oil. Dark Chocolate contains: Cocoa Solids 50% minimum.
Caution: Contains soya

D&D Boxed Hollow Chocolate Easter Egg 100g – £5.36 (Dairy Free, Gluten Free )
Ingredients: Cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, emulsifier: soya lecithin, flavouring: natural vanilla.

Moo Free Dairy Free ‘Milk’ Chocolate Easter Egg 100g – £4.00 (Dairy Free, Egg Free, Gluten Free, Lactose Free, Vegan, Wheat Free)
Ingredients: Organic sugar, organic cocoa butter, organic rice powder, organic cocoa mass, emulsifier: sunflower lecithin, natural flavouring. Contains cocoa solids 42% min. Made with fairtrade cocoa and sugar.
Caution: May contain nut traces.

Humdinger Dairy-Free Easter Bunny 100g – £2.99 (Dairy free)
Ingredients: Cane sugar, cocoa butter (21%), soya flour (20%), cocoa mass (11%), inulin. emulsifier (soya lecithin, E476), flavourings (natural vanilla).
Caution: Contains soya

Siesta Solid Mini Eggs 120g – £6.94 (Dairy and gluten free)
Ingredients: Carob powder 30%, non-hydrogenated vegetable fat, soya powder, emulsifier – soya lecithin, natural vanilla flavouring.
Caution: This product has been produced in a nut free environment however we can not guarantee that it does not contain nut traces. Contains soya.

Whizzers chocolate speckled eggs (Dairy free)
Ingredients: Sugar, Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin), Gum Arabic, Glazing Agent (Carnauba Wax), Flavouring, Natural Colours (Turmeric, Copper Chlorophylin, Caramelised Sugar Syrup, Beetroot juice).
Caution: Contains soya.
