Teignmouth with allergies – TwentySix, gluten and dairy free lunch

Now I don’t mean I had twenty six lunches, honestly, tasty though it was, I’m not that greedy.

Just a quick update in case any of you are travelling to Devon any time soon. A recent visit to find some big waves at Teignmouth failed miserably, it was almost as calm as a lake, but we did come up trumps on the lunch front.

It’s not easy finding somewhere to eat lunch when you have multiple allergies and food intolerances and have gone out for the day uncharacteristically unprepared. I was beginning to feel that old well worn dread and reluctance to address the situation.

“I don’t know where I can eat. Is there a supermarket? We can just have a picnic. I can have a bag of crisps and some fruit. I’ll be fine. Honest! I know it’s blowing a gale and getting very brisk but I am panicking now and may self destruct in five minutes…” This conversation was going on in my head when we stopped for a well earned drink.

Whilst warming up and enjoying some nice coffee in TwentySix we surveyed the lunch menu.

Gluten free cakes it said. Gluten free bread available on request. What more could you ask?

Gluten and dairy free lunch at TwentySix in Teignmouth,Devon

Smoked salmon, herby salad and gluten free toast

Dad had Croque Maison which was a very glorified cheese on toast and I enjoyed a very tasty and filling Smoked Salmon with herby salad and gluten free bread. I had to ask for the GF bread and checked it was also dairy, nut and celery free but thumbs up.

Lovely lunch and a joy to order.

No funny looks, just nice friendly staff in a lovely bright, airy and warm and cosy cafe.

And very reasonably priced too.

They also do tea, coffee and hot chocolate, breakfasts, lunch and sunday lunch options and also have a wine license so you can have a glass with your lunch if you’re celebrating.

You’ll find them a little way from the sea front at 26 Regent Street, Teignmouth, Devon TQ14 8SJ and you could even call ahead to see if they have bread in the shop and suitable cake that you can eat on 01626 879000. Check out their website at http://www.twentysixcafe.co.uk/
