Someone told me that I was recently (Autumn 2010) in Australia Woman’s Day magazine. Well, I told them they must have the wrong Ruth. I know I’m really famous and all that (Yeah Right!) but that they must be mistaken. Imagine my shock when I found out they were right!
Trying to get hold of a copy of the article, but in the meantime, check out this screen shot from A girl with a satchel blog. I’ve highlighted my name, right there in black and white, in the same breath as former Home and Away acrtress Jodi Gordon ‘in her sparkly frock’ is little old me, the marketing manager ‘who is allergic to exercise’.
I’d like to remind you all straight away that I’m not allergic to exercise, in actual fact that couldn’t be further from the truth, but I do have to very careful what I eat before exercising and always take an Epipen with me if I do.
I actually think being fit helps with allergies in two really major ways. Firstly, if you’re active and fit you’re body is healthier and stronger and better able to cope with allergic attacks. Secondly, when I have a major allergic attack I get really depressed. It’s like my brain and body just curl up and die. I have to fight this and go out, even with a face like a burnt crisp and eyes swollen like red balloons.
It’s hard work, painful, and I’m convinced everyone is staring at me, but if I get out, get fresh air, and see people, I feel 100% better already. It’s a constant battle and the little voice in my head says, “I don’t want to go out anymore. I’ll cancel drinks, cinema, whatever, and stay in.” Don’t listen to that evil little voice. Ring a friend, go out and have a laugh. Go out for a walk, or a jog, and don’t miss your yoga class, tennis practise etc. I promise you most people wont notice it as much as you think they will, and if people do mention it it’s usually because they care. You will feel so much better, I promise you. The act of doing something will wash all your cares away; well if I’m honest, it wont quite do that, but it helps.
Just thought you might all like a laugh at that acticle anyway. How did that happen? How can I get in a magazine in Australian and not know about it?
