Why have I got shingles?

23/09/2019 by Ruth Holroyd 11 Comments

I can honestly say this is the most painful illness I've ever had and depending on what sources you read, it could last anything from 2-5 weeks, or longer in cases with complications. Just a quick google of the symptoms gives you some idea of how bad the pain can be... it's one the biggest causes of pain related suicide, and I can understand why. It's relentless, with no … [Read more...]

Testing Herstat propolis on cold sores – it works

Herstat propolis cold sore care range

Recently I have been testing propolis cold sore ointment from Herstat on a cold sore that crept up on me in the night. I have been using their LipCare Stick as a preventative measure but you know when you feel that tingling just when you're dozing off to sleep? You know you should get up, find the ointment and apply a good dose immediately but you're so nice and cozy in … [Read more...]

The secrets behind how propolis fights cold sores

21/03/2014 by Ruth Holroyd 2 Comments

What is propolis? Honeybees make propolis using resins they gather from plants. They chew the resins, drawing out beneficial plant extracts and mix them with their saliva, which they then combine with wax produced from glands on their abdomens. This results in the production of propolis, which contains a concentrated mixture of polyphenols and flavonoids.Bees use this … [Read more...]

Why you should NEVER pop a cold sore

08/11/2013 by Ruth Holroyd 4 Comments

This is just a really quick blog post about cold sores. I keep getting asked on my original cold sore blog, "The Do's and Don'ts of cold sores", 'should I pop a cold sore?'The answer? Is NO. Nope. Never. Just don't do it. Apart from it being very painful cold sores are also extremely contagious and can spread if you pick them. I know some people do find relief from popping … [Read more...]

Hello, I’m Ruth, author and blogger

Ruth

Hi I'm Ruth. I've grown up with eczema and multiple life-threatening allergies and collected more as I've got older.  It started with a peanut allergy and now I'm allergic to milk, wheat, soya and many more. In this blog I share tips, advice and things I've learnt living with allergies, asthma and eczema with a focus on topical steroid withdrawal. You can buy my books, which are brilliant by the way! The first is Anaphylaxis: The essential guide and the second, The Shape of Skin, healing poems for eczema and sensitive skin. The reviews speak for themselves. If you want to chat you can find me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn (links below). Do get in touch. And please comment on blogs, it makes a humble blogger do a little happy dance!
