Buying chocolate, and Easter eggs in particular for someone with allergies can be daunting. Are there hidden ingredients that you haven’t spotted? How can you be completely sure that the one you buy is the right one? Well things are getting better every year for those with dairy, nut and wheat allergies as the number of great tasty and allergen free options grows every year. Here is a rundown of some that I have spotted in the shops.

- Choices Dairy Free Easter egg with six chocolate discs 125g (Dairy, wheat, gluten and egg free) Ingredients: Sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, rice powder, (rice syrup, rice starch, rice flour), inulin, coconut oil, natural flavourings, emulsifier (soya lecithin). Caution: This one has no mention of nuts, whether it is free from or not.
- Kinnerton dairy free egg, available in The Simpsons and Winnie the Pooh (Dairy and nut free). Ingredients: Hollow Dark Chocolate Egg: Cocoa Mass, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin; Natural Vanilla Flavouring. Fruit Flavoured Jellies: Glucose Syrup, Sugar, Gelling Agent: Modified Maize Starch, Pectin; Concentrated Fruit Juice (11%) ( Apple, Grape, Pear, Peach, Pineapple), Acidulant: Citric Acid; Acidity Regulator: Sodium Citrate; Vegetable and Fruit Extracts, Natural Flavourings, Glazing Agents: Carnauba Wax, Vegetable Oil. Dark Chocolate contains: Cocoa Solids 50% minimum. Caution: Contains soya.
- Nomo – They do a range if dairy and nut free eggs for kids and adults, including the Cookie Dough Crunch easter egg. My favourite is the Fruit Crunch egg! They also do easter shapes and fun flavours. https://nomochoc.com/
- D&D Boxed Hollow Chocolate Easter Egg 100g – £5.36 (Dairy Free, Gluten Free ) Ingredients: Cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, emulsifier: soya lecithin, flavouring: natural vanilla. They also do bags of small foil wrapped egg shapes.
- Moo Free Dairy Free ‘Milk’ Chocolate Easter Egg 100g – £4.00 (Dairy Free, Egg Free, Gluten Free, Lactose Free, Vegan, Wheat Free) Ingredients: Organic sugar, organic cocoa butter, organic rice powder, organic cocoa mass, emulsifier: sunflower lecithin, natural flavouring. Contains cocoa solids 42% min. Made with fairtrade cocoa and sugar. Caution: May contain nut traces.
- Siesta Solid Mini Eggs 120g – £6.94 (Dairy and gluten free) Ingredients: Carob powder 30%, non-hydrogenated vegetable fat, soya powder, emulsifier – soya lecithin, natural vanilla flavouring. Caution: This product has been produced in a nut free environment however we can not guarantee that it does not contain nut traces. Contains soya.
- Whizzers chocolate speckled eggs (Dairy free) Ingredients: Sugar, Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin), Gum Arabic, Glazing Agent (Carnauba Wax), Flavouring, Natural Colours (Turmeric, Copper Chlorophylin, Caramelised Sugar Syrup, Beetroot juice). Caution: Contains soya. I’m not sure if these are still available.
- SoFree (From Plamil) – Gluten Free, Dairy & Lactose Free and suitable for Vegans
- Crayola (from Kinnerton) – A really fun Decorate your own easter egg. Freefrom nuts and dairy.
- Salcombe Dairy – Nut free eggs. Not dairy free. They do white chocolate Easter Egg with Hot Chocolate. https://www.salcombedairy.co.uk
- Forest of Hope (by Kinnerton) is an egg that comes in two halves, with an animal card and challenges and fun for the kids to discover. It’s nut free.
- Supermarket own – Most supermarkers also now do their own eggs which will be more affordable. Check the labels for allergen details.
What is you want allergen free mini eggs?
These are harder to find. But here are a few options:
- Tesco – Do their own brand mini eggs in the free from range
- D&D also have mini eggs.
- Moo Free – They do some white chocolate mini eggs. Ingredients: Sugar, cocoa butter [36%], rice flour, natural flavouring, emulsifier (sunflower lecithin). The following potential allergens may have come in contact with this product in transport, packing or production: Nuts
- Whizzers used to do them but I’m not sure if they’ve gone out of business.
