How many days?
A short poem by Ruth Holroyd, about frustration. Grrrr.
How many days have I lost to you my allergy?
Weeks curled in pain.
Lost in shame.
Senses all aflame.
And feeling somehow I must be to blame.
And now I’ve learned to live with you my allergy
I’m stronger from the pain
Loving food again
No longer feel insane
Thank goodness I can still drink champagne
Too many days you have lost
But you learn more with each attack
So even if you feel too much cost
The knowledge gained is placed on the stack

My allergies are probably not as sever as yours but I’ve been tested and shown severe allergies to dust mites and mold, as well as strong fevers to most plants, both winter and summer ones, and mild allergies to most animals (with the exception of goats and pigs). I still have a pet dog and two pet cats, so I am relieved that my allergies are only mild when it concerns them, but I do feel as though I have a constant cold. I get tired, stuffy-nosed, headaches, and the worst is the hayfever though in the Spring and Summer;I feel like I can barely breathe during those times of year and my eyes itch and sting as well as my ears itch inside.
One of my daughters never showed any signs of having allergies and then on week in the Summer that was unusually hot and sunny, she broke out in an itchy rash all over her body. We were told she is allergic to the sun. 🙁
The cost to our lives of living with allergies can be high, and it does make me cross that immunotherapy could easily erradicate most your air borne allergies, but it’s not available on the NHS and probably exorbitantly costly if you go private, though I am going to look into this. I do hate to say it, but your symptoms may alleviate if you didn’t have animals in your house, but I guess they are part of the family now and you manage to cope. I do feel sorry for your daughter, how awful for you. I do have a friend who was allergic to the sun as a young girl and she did grow out of it, thankfully so don’t give up hope. All very complex this allergy business. You gotta keep smiling though. :o)
