Does pressing a cold sore with your fingernail stop it growing?

26/07/2013 by Ruth Holroyd 2 Comments

Now this is a bit weird but it's something I do to every cold sore I get when they're at the slight swelling not quite blister stage. As well as hitting them with zovirax, tea tree, bergamot oil and taking Llysine tablets I have noticed that I press a fingernail right into the heart of the tingling sore. I think I've always done this but I'm not sure why it helps. Does … [Read more...]

Testing Propolis cold sore ointment - day 2

I haven't had a cold sore now for nearly a year, not a proper throbbing mess of a one, so maybe it was karma, time I had some pain. But when I got the tingle recently, instead of doing what I normally do, which has kept me cold sore free, I tried some of the remedies people have shared here. I tried lots of different attacks on the cold sore. His name is Winston, and he has … [Read more...]

Cold sore diary – waking up with one

01/05/2013 by Ruth Holroyd 1 Comment

Nettle leaf shoots

Cold sores cause misery for many. They're painful, unsightly and can spread easily. They are also a very popular topic on this blog, so when one reader suggested Vitamin B2, also called riboflavin, as one way of preventing them I knew I had to share it with all my cold sore readers. Hello, I’m Ruth, author and blogger

Ruth

Hi I'm Ruth. I've grown up with eczema and multiple life-threatening allergies and collected more as I've got older.  It started with a peanut allergy and now I'm allergic to milk, wheat, soya and many more. In this blog I share tips, advice and things I've learnt living with allergies, asthma and eczema with a focus on topical steroid withdrawal. You can buy my books, which are brilliant by the way! The first is Anaphylaxis: The essential guide and the second, The Shape of Skin, healing poems for eczema and sensitive skin. The reviews speak for themselves. If you want to chat you can find me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn (links below). Do get in touch. And please comment on blogs, it makes a humble blogger do a little happy dance!
