Imagine being allergic to ALL food! Imagine a world with no food, no variety and no taste. Or worse still, you are living in a world observing others enjoying food and yet you can only sit by and crunch on ice. I often partake in a little ice crunching in the summer if it’s in the bottom of my glass, but I’m sure I would soon get fed up with it if it was all I had to munch on to exercise my face muscles.
My heart goes out to little Kaleb; his picture on the Times website article shows a handsome smiling little boy. I will never complain again (well I’ll try not to anyway) about my own restricted diet, which is nothing to what this little boy has to endure. Kaleb is a little boy aged just five years old who lives in Adelaide, Australia with his parents and sister. His family do not suffer with similar allergies but Kaleb cannot eat any food at all without being violently ill. He’s fed with a nutrient and calcium formula through a peg in his belly button which sends the food directly to his stomach; everywhere he goes a back-pack containing this feeding device is with him.
Doctors are baffled with his condition; it is very rare to suffer from allergies and intolerances to all food stuffs, and they continue to conduct tests to find out why.
I first read about this in the Times newspaper on 29th July. If you would like to read more click here.
