Breaking news: Eat chocolate to cure allergies!

01/04/2011 by Ruth Holroyd 8 Comments

Scientist have found a link between eating chocolate and curing allergies – for good! Sounds too good to be true? With the ever rising numbers of children and adults who are developing allergies it’s something that is close to many of our hearts. Most people nowadays either have allergies, or know someone who has. Dr Ian Knowle devised and came up with the study guidelines and invited a cross section of women who were newly pregnant to get involved.

Chcolate barOver one thousand pregnant women took part in the study and were encouraged to eat at least five bars of plain dark chocolate every day of their pregnancy. The special thing about these women is that half of them had serious allergies themselves and the other half did not.

The test proved that at aged 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years old the children of these chocolate eating mothers showed no signs of developing any allergies, asthma or food sensitivities across the board, for the families where one or more parent already had allergies, and those with no history of allergies.

Conclusive proof it seems. However eating the chocolate didn’t have any health benefits relating to the easing or dissappearance of allergies for any of the mothers who took part in the study.

It is hoped that this experiment can be widened to cover a larger study group to see if more expectant mothers can protect and safeguard the future health of their children by enjoying a chocolate induced haze during their pregnancy.

One unfortunate side effect of the chocolate eating was that all the mothers put on far more weight than is normal in pregnancy and also found they were then addicted to chocolate afterwards. Scientiests are now looking at ways of helping them to slowly reduce their dependancy, but due to the success of this rather interesting experiment thousands of other women who are planning a family soon are queuing to join the study.

Do you have allergies? Do you want to safeguard your children’s health and help to prevent them from developing life threatening allergies? Well just eat chocolate! What better cure could there possibly be? No more feeling guilty about eating too much or not sharing… Check today’s date and tell me what you think of this clever experiment. Will you be trying it?

I just did a google search because I myself have had allergies the past few days pretty badly and think I found a fix!!!

I have went to the grocery store, bought a bunch of food and bought some white chocolate which I ate right when getting home. About 5 minutes after eating the chocolate, my allergies came to an instant stop, seriously! It has now been about 4 hours since first eating the chocolate and still no allergies. It was like an instant reaction too which I found very odd so made me go online searching to see if this was just something I wasn’t aware of… I get seasonal allergies and I am sure I will get them again soon which I plan on having a few chocolates set aside for testing, anyone else try/notice this? I would be interested to hear(i checked notify of comment replies by email).

Hi Mike, when you say you have allergies, are you referring to hay fever? You could have stumbled upon a miracle hay fever cure there you know! Or maybe whatever was causing your alleriges has gone away. Keep eating chocolate but not too much! For purely medicinal reasons of course. I don’t notice that my allergies go away when I eat chocolate sadly but it’s worth a try.

I believe I have hay fever, but not exactly sure… I heard to get diagnosed properly by a doctor it is pretty expensive ๐Ÿ™ It is just in spring/summer that my allergies act up although, if that means anything. It was very odd how sudden my allergies had stopped considering I had them for a few days pretty much constant before eating the chocolate.

I’m not sure it can really, but there are known health benefits of eating pure dark chocolate due to all the antioxidants.
