How to report a restaurant for allergen mistakes and dangerous practices

29/11/2019 by Ruth Holroyd 4 Comments

We keep hearing more and more about restaurants who do not have sufficient allergen menu labelling and who make mistakes and serve customers the wrong food, or food that makes them ill, or worse... We hear about the fatalities, the deaths and the court hearings. We don't hear about all the near misses. How many of us actually report mistakes? And often does this happen … [Read more...]

What would I say to my teenage self?

13/11/2019 by Ruth Holroyd 2 Comments

Imagine if you could write a letter to yourself. Like advice from the future. With all the hindsight that comes with experience. Here's what I'd write to myself. Lessons learnt from being bullied This week is anti-bullying week and today is World Kindness Day. Both subjects close to my heart. But before I go any further, I would just like to point out that the … [Read more...]

Stop allergy bullying now!

12/11/2019 by Ruth Holroyd 4 Comments

It's anti-bullying week so I wanted to have a bit of a chat . In particular, bullying someone because they have allergies. In order to survive with allergies in this world, you need to grow a tough skin. It does seem to be a condition that comedians feel it's OK to have a pop at. We are laughable in the eyes of many. We are seen as fussy, freaks and that our allergies are not … [Read more...]

allergen labels

These allergen labels are really cool, waterproof and dishwasher proof. They would be really useful in any allergy household, or indeed for coeliacs. If you have a sticker lover in your household, these would also make a great stocking filler. So here's a top ten reasons to label your food containers... Hello, I’m Ruth, author and blogger

Ruth

Hi I'm Ruth. I've grown up with eczema and multiple life-threatening allergies and collected more as I've got older.  It started with a peanut allergy and now I'm allergic to milk, wheat, soya and many more. In this blog I share tips, advice and things I've learnt living with allergies, asthma and eczema with a focus on topical steroid withdrawal. You can buy my books, which are brilliant by the way! The first is Anaphylaxis: The essential guide and the second, The Shape of Skin, healing poems for eczema and sensitive skin. The reviews speak for themselves. If you want to chat you can find me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn (links below). Do get in touch. And please comment on blogs, it makes a humble blogger do a little happy dance!
