This month, thanks to Nestle, I’ve been trying out their new gluten free honey flakes for breakfast.
They also now make Gluten Free Corn Flakes so if you are coeliac or can’t have cereals with wheat, these are a great choice for a healthy breakfast.
I’ve not opened the corn flakes yet, working my way through the honey flakes.
What’s in the honey flakes?
The ingredients are: Maize, Brown Sugar, Sugar, Dextrose, Salt, Honey (0.5%), Caramelised Sugar Syrup
Vitamins and Minerals: Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Riboflavin (B2), Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin D, Iron
They’re pretty damn good though they are quite sweet. I’ve been enjoying them with Provamel coconut milk which is REALLY coconuty and goes very well with the honey sweetness. They stay nice and crunchy, don’t go soggy and filled me up.
They are also certified gluten free by Coeliac UK and it seems have actually been around for quite some time.
As for where you can buy them, I’d assume large supermarkets will stock them. Waitrose certainly do so you can buy them online.
I usually keep my sugar intake to a minimum but these are a lovely treat and would be great for kids who have coeliac disease or a wheat allergy. It feels like having normal cereal… not special freefrom cereal. They also contain vitamins and minerals so help towards your recommended daily intake.
Anyone else tried them? What’s your favourite gluten free or wheat free cereal?

Sounds lovely, but you are luckier than me. No corn, sugar or dextrose, which is corn, for me. If people have a problem with refined white sugar be careful with honey, it has to be pure and the bees not kept alive in the winter with sugar Dr. Mercola would not allow dextrose. Jacquie

Hi Jacquie, yes I know corn is not great for many… I plan a nut free, freefrom cereals blog soon of the more simpler, purer brands out there. There are some I promise. Have you looked at Perkier Foods? I usually steer clear or sugar in high quantities but I am enjoying these cereals. Too much refined sugar isn’t great for me though.

Yep,we discovered these a little while ago at waitrose.
And YAY! My all nut, sesame and lupin allergic boy can have them, them.
Even better, all 3 of my kids like them.
Happy Days!

And they are just like having ‘normal’ cereals in ‘normal’ style packaging – it doesn’t look like special freefrom food for a change. Top marks to Nestle. I have heard some negative stuff about how they behave in other countries regarding formula milk in poorer countries where they have no water to make up the formulas. I have to admit to being very poorly educated with it comes to politics etc. But there isn’t much choice for freefromers really so if there is one cereal kids will eat which is fortified I wouldn’t blame people for trying these. They do also taste great.
