I’ve heard of homeopathy before but never really understood what it was all about. I’ve suffered with allergies all my life too and never really understood what they were all about either. When it really gets me down I get to feeling “Why me?”, but there isn’t an answer. Doctors don’t know why one person gets eczema, allergies and asthma, and another will not. My sister and I both suffer badly but neither of my parents, nor my brother have any eczema, asthma or allergies. No one else in my extended family and very few of my close friends have allergies and eczema, so it can be a very lonely time.
Can natural therapies work?
Over the years people have often suggested that I give homeopathy a go, but I’ve tried so many different cures and remedies in my life and never quite got around to this one. Chinese herbal medicine, food elimination, supplements, aloe vera, steroid creams, seaweed baths; you name it, I’ve tried it. I recently met a local homeopath and she told me a little bit more about it and suggested that she thought it could work for me. I instantly liked and trusted her so it just seemed like the right time to try it.
What is homeopathy?
So what is Homeopathy? What’s it all about? In the dictionary it says: the method of treating disease by drugs, given in minute doses, that would produce in a healthy person symptoms similar to those of the disease . The word Homeopathy comes from the Greek word ‘homoios’ which means “like, similar, of the same kind”. Homeopathy aims to treat the source of the problem with very small doses of a particular remedy. The treatment might be completely different for each person, and the length of time you take the regular doses for may vary from patient to patient. If you think of hay fever and the idea that eating some honey every day, which contains minute particles of pollen, can help to alleviate hay fever symptoms it starts to make more sense.
What to expect at your consultation
The first consultation was exhausting. The lady ask me so many quesitons, including:
- She asked me all about my life history
- My childhood
- Any traumas
- Cravings
- What the cycles of my allergies were
- When did they flare up
- Even my dental history. Apparently the teeth are a map of the body, just like in reflexology with the feet, and trouble with certain teeth can mean problems in certain parts of the body. My problem teeth all pointed towards the stomach area which fits with the allergy and sensitivities I’m experiencing. There could be a pattern with metal fillings being fitted and removed and replaced, giving my a dose of unhealthy mercury vapours, which could be very significant in my health history.
I told her things I’ve never even spoken about to my best friends. I found myself pouring my heart out and sharing experiences and suspicions about the causes of my allergies and asthma etc. and it was a very cathartic and tiring experience.
Your homeopathy special remedy
Based on what I told her the homeopath prepared my remedy, which arrived in the post first thing the very next day. What she prescribes will be completely different for each individual patient and because I am so sensitive to things at the moment she prepared mine in water, instead of the usual alcohol (just in case) and also in a special bottle without the rubber pipette, which I would also have been allergic to.
I’ve had my first three doses; one drop of clear liquid in a glass of water each morning as prescribed. I can’t wait to see what happens. Will my symptoms decrease? How long will it take before I see a change in my health and sensitivity?
I’d love to hear from anyone who has tried homeopathy to help with allergies and sensitivities. Did it work for you? How long did it take? Do you think it works? Next week I’ll let you know how I’m getting on and any changes in my health and wellbeing.
