Adrenaline needle, nasal spray or sub lingual for anaphylaxis?

27/10/2023 by Ruth Holroyd 2 Comments

adrenaline auto injectors

100% of people would rather not be using adrenaline auto injectors with needles! In fact we all hate the needles, it's just added stress to the whole situation. I just made up that statistic, but help me prove it. I'm asking all those with severe allergies to answer me one question: Would your rather inject adrenaline or use a nasal spray? If you have time, please pop … [Read more...]

chat magazine anaphylaxis article

I just had to share this brilliant article which was featured this week in Chat Magazine, with the fantastic headline of "Snogging me comes with a health warning!". That made me laugh so much, possibly the heading for my dating profile? This article details my allergy journey, from my first even anaphylactic reaction, diagnosis with a nut allergy, right up to my last … [Read more...]

Anaphylaxis - Fear of using auto-injector

I could probably write a whole book about this and maybe I will, but for now this is more about a kind of therapy for me. In September I ate out in a cafe in America and had the worst allergic reaction of my life. I often joke about it when anyone asks me, "When was the last time you had a reaction?" This is Ian and Karen's story, about how they discovered their little three year old daughter was allergic to nuts and getting that first anaphylaxis diagnosis... Ian tells the story about how something so simple as feeding the birds started the allergic reactions. Just feeding the birds In March 2014 my little girl JoJo and I were out in the garden feeding the birds, as … [Read more...]

Hello, I’m Ruth, author and blogger

Ruth

Hi I'm Ruth. I've grown up with eczema and multiple life-threatening allergies and collected more as I've got older.  It started with a peanut allergy and now I'm allergic to milk, wheat, soya and many more. In this blog I share tips, advice and things I've learnt living with allergies, asthma and eczema with a focus on topical steroid withdrawal. You can buy my books, which are brilliant by the way! The first is Anaphylaxis: The essential guide and the second, The Shape of Skin, healing poems for eczema and sensitive skin. The reviews speak for themselves. If you want to chat you can find me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn (links below). Do get in touch. And please comment on blogs, it makes a humble blogger do a little happy dance!
