Having a dairy and a tomato allergy and also a wheat intolerance can kind of put you off pizza; it would pretty much be my ultimate meal from hell.
So I’ve never really experimented with gluten free pizza bases, although I know there are loads of different brands out there now.
But last week, in the post, arrived a very interesting package from the lovely people at Venice Bakery UK.
We met on Twitter @venicebakeryuk and they very kindly agreed to send me a few samples to try out.
I began to think about what I could do to try them, without the need for cheese and tomato and there are actually loads of things you can do to jazz up a gluten free pizza base.
Here are a few ideas…
- Mango chutney with pepper, chicken chunks, bacon and courgettes
- Any kind of chutney with mushrooms, bacon and anything else you want to put on your pizza.
- Make some tomato free red sauce and top with pepperoni and dairy free cheese of your choice
- Simple with just olive oil and garlic
And this is what I did with my Venice Bakery flatbread, perfect as an accompaniment to a delicious ilumi Cardamom chicken curry.
As well as the standard pizza base they also make mini ones and flat breads.
AND they are all gluten, dairy, soya, egg, corn and wheat free – what’s not to love?
What would do with yours? Got any good ideas?
You can also visit them at the Allergy Show on stand 136 from 7th June to 9th June at London Olympia to try out their products, it’s a great chance to buy some as they currently only sell online from their website. “we’ll be sampling and selling our products. Hot off the press we can confirm we’ll be sampling MozzaRisella dairyfree and vegan cheese on our pizzas.”
Have you tried these?
