If you have facial eczema mirrors are the enemy. Even reflective windows can show up your rosy visage in all it’s vivid horror. People with eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis have bad skin days AND bad hair days. Imagine that!
Sometimes though it’s good to remember the times between the eczema and that it never looks as bad as you think it feels or seems in your head. Mirrors are not all bad.
This is a short poem that I wrote on a bad skin day about eczema and mirrors.
I never look into the mirror. In case of what I might see. I'm always pointing the camera. So it's never looking at me. If I do spot my reflection. I'm surprised to spy. Not the horror I’m expecting. But just me walking by. There is always more to any book. Than what is on the cover. It’s not the only thing you see; There’s hidden beauty to discover. My skin is like a mirror. Revealing how I feel. I wish it was as smooth as glass. But that would not be real. Inside though I am happy. Underneath the face you meet. Contented with the life I have. Not taking a back seat. For more poems like this check out my poetry book, The Shape of Skin, available on Amazon.
That’s all for today folks.
Watch out for mirrors and clean windows!

From Janet, who tried to post as a comment but it wouldn’t work. A lovely third verse 🙂
There is more to a book
Than its cover
Its not the only thing I see
There is beauty hidden inside
Smiling back at me….
(OK its not Keats…its Friday and raining….)

My skin is like a mirror
Revealing how I feel
I wish it was as smooth as glass
But that would not be real
Inside though I’m happy
Underneath all this
I think perhaps I’m lucky
That myself is on my surface

Brilliant! And thanks also for your comment with your story about eczema. Will reply to that shortly. You do have to learn to love yourself and get on with life. Having eczema can be tough but it can be controlled to an extent that it doesn’t run your life. Love the first verse.
