What’s in my adrenaline carry pouch?

18/10/2019 by Ruth Holroyd Leave a Comment

What do you keep in your adrenaline carry case? What do you call your pouch? And what do you carry your emergency medical supplies in? I’d love to know.

I use this beautiful PVC make-up bag to carry my adrenaline. It’s by Ted Baker and was given to me by my aunt (Thank you Ro – I love it xxx).

If you want to buy one just like mine, check this out: Exclusive New Ted Baker ladies large cosmetic bag pvc Autumn/Winter 18

It’s the perfect size and still has some room to fit in other things so sometimes this is my clutch bag when I go out all glammed up.

So what’s in there?

balmonds tea tree salve
Balmonds tea tree salve – the best thing for when my skin is really aggravated
  • Two adrenaline autoinjectors. I usually have an Emerade but due to a fault with the mechanism I have swapped to a Jext since this photo was taken. Always, always carry two in case of secondary reactions
  • Liquid antihistamine – I have Zirtek here and I find this easier to take if your throat is swelling and you can’t swallow easily. I think it also acts faster. If you have tablet form make sure it’s a fast acting antihistamine.
  • Inhaler – asthma always plays a part in my anapnhylactic rections.
  • Medicalert bracelet – I”m usually wearing this but while me eczema is really bad on my wrists sometimes it lives in here and I just wear it if I’m going out out!
  • My Action Plan – you should all carry one. Please download this blank one of mine and tailor to your one needs. It will help your friends and family know what to do and also help you focus. Paramedics may also find this useful as it will have all your personal details on it.
  • I also have a small pot of Epaderm and some Balmonds Tea Tree balm as I also always get really itchy and this can help if I need to try to calm the irritation topically.

I had some lovely responses telling me what people used to carry theirs, including:

Here are some of the suggestions:

  • Medical specialist bag
  • Cath Kidston (thanks @allergymumuk)
  • Alladdin and Jasmine for a kids carry case (thanks @amzchohan)
  • Marvel Case (thanks @myallergyboy)

So what do you carry your Anaphylaxis first aid kit in? It it a functional pouch or are you owning it and using something you are not ashamed to show in public? Does it even matter? Should it be in a medical type bag to allow people to find it more easily?

And more importantly, do you wear a Medical bracelet? This is also so important. You should all have one and wear it every day. I’d absolutely love it if you could post your adrenaline carry pouch on Instagram and tag me. And finally, what do you do you call it? the bag you keep all your allergy first aid kit in? Does it have a name?

I would love to hear from you all!

Hello, I’m Ruth, author and blogger

Hi I'm Ruth. I've grown up with eczema and multiple life-threatening allergies and collected more as I've got older.  It started with a peanut allergy and now I'm allergic to milk, wheat, soya and many more. In this blog I share tips, advice and things I've learnt living with allergies, asthma and eczema with a focus on topical steroid withdrawal. You can buy my books, which are brilliant by the way! The first is Anaphylaxis: The essential guide and the second, The Shape of Skin, healing poems for eczema and sensitive skin. The reviews speak for themselves.
